Symbols and Signs, 1993 - 2003

The artist’s interest in how we see and interpret images led to an exploration of semiotics—the study of signs and symbols—particularly its branches of pragmatics (logic) and semantics (meaning). By examining visual systems through this lens, the artist investigates how imagery functions like a language, evoking personal thoughts, emotions, and beliefs. This inquiry intersects with the artist’s experience of visual afflictions, deepening their exploration of perception and meaning. True understanding of complex pictorial systems, such as art, requires not just recognition of form, but contextual awareness—a visual literacy that links vision, truth, and belief.
